Children’s Dance & Performing Arts Classes

Ages 5-18 years

SUB-JUNIORS & JUNIORS

Ages 6-9 years

Our Primary school aged students at BBA are known as our Sub-Junior and Junior levels. The dance programs on offer for these age groups are designed especially for children who are ready to build confidence, skill and a genuine love of dance in a supportive and encouraging environment. These classes offer the perfect balance of structure, creativity and fun, helping young dancers grow both technically and personally.

Students at this level can enjoy Cecchetti Classical Ballet as well as our popular Acro/Jazz Combo classes, and Junior students have the choice of Hip-Hop and Tap giving them the opportunity to explore different styles while developing strong, well-rounded movement skills.

Our Cecchetti Ballet classes follow the internationally recognised Cecchetti Classical Ballet Method, a world-renowned syllabus known for its exceptional training in sound technical principles, coordination, musicality and artistry. Classes are taught by BBA Principal Lydia Cagney Morris, a Licentiate Diploma qualified teacher of the Cecchetti Method, ensuring children receive authentic, high-quality classical ballet training from an experienced professional. This strong technical foundation supports not only ballet, but all dance styles, helping dancers move with confidence, control and elegance.

Our Acro/Jazz Combo classes build on the fun and energy introduced at Mini level, developing flexibility, strength, coordination and agility through beginner acrobatic skills such as rolls, cartwheels and balances, combined with upbeat jazz dance routines. These classes are fantastic for children who love to move, jump, tumble and perform while improving their fitness, rhythm and body awareness.

Beyond physical skills, dance at this age supports confidence, focus, teamwork and resilience. Students learn how to set goals, practise, follow instructions and work together — all in a positive, non-competitive environment where every child is encouraged to do their best.

At Bayside Ballet Academy, we are proud to offer families across Beaumaris and Bayside Melbourne a place where children can grow, make friends and develop lifelong skills through the joy of dance.

INTER & SENIORS

Ages 10-17 years

Our Inter and Senior dancers at Bayside Ballet Academy include late primary school and high school aged students who are ready to build on their previous dance training and explore a wider range of styles, skills and performance opportunities. These levels are ideal for students who enjoy dancing and want to continue developing their technique, confidence and creativity in a supportive and motivating environment.

We offer a diverse selection of classes at this stage, including Cecchetti Classical Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Tap and Musical Theatre, giving students the opportunity to discover their strengths while becoming well-rounded, versatile dancers.

At this level, we place strong emphasis on developing sound technique, strength, flexibility and performance quality in every style. Students learn exciting choreography for our end-of-year concert, while those studying ballet also have the opportunity to work towards Cecchetti examinations, pointe preparation, and strength and conditioning, all taught safely and progressively.

Just as importantly, dance during the teenage years supports both physical and mental wellbeing. Our Inter and Senior programs encourage confidence, teamwork, focus and resilience, while providing a positive, non-competitive space where students can stay active, build friendships and enjoy the many benefits of dance.

At Bayside Ballet Academy, we are proud to offer Bayside Melbourne families a place where older children and teens can continue to grow, express themselves and thrive through dance.
