Bayside Ballet Academy proudly acknowledges the Bunurong People of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land in which we conduct our work, and we pay our respects to their Elders, past, present, and emerging. We recognise the important role that art and dance has played on these lands for thousands of years. We pay respect to Elders who always have, and always will, care for Country and community today, and for future generations.
The Bunurong people loved this land, they cared for it and considered themselves to be part of it. On the bay foreshore and in the surrounding sand belt scrub, they would have subsisted with an ample food source. Oysters as big as dinner plates, abundant fish in the shallows, numerous edible and medicinal plants and a wide variety of reptiles, birds and mammals would have supplied their needs.
